Hi everybody,

This is the first time I'm posting here. So, my question is, what kind of "strap-on" keyboards (like the one Donald Fagen uses) are available nowadays?

There's a picture of a "strap-on" synth here if you don't know what kind of a synth I'm talking about here.

I've heard that Korg RK100 and Roland AX1 are this kind of synths, but I've never seen a picture of 'em.

So, if you've got a "strap-on" keyboard, please tell me where are they available and what model is the best one.

Thanks in advance and groove-it-loud!,

To my knowledge , the only 'strap on' that was actually a synth was the Moog Liberation.The rest are simply controllers - they make no sound of their own , just send out MIDI data . Yamaha produced two , one with 'mini'sized keys and one regular . I use three others: a Korg RK100 (1984), Roland Axis (1985), and a Roland AX-1 (the only strap on being currently marketed). There were a few others by minor companies . Oh , yeah , Casio made one also . Hope that helped.-Mikeferd Abbott

The Roland SH-101 was a true synth with guitar strap buttons and a controller grip for the left hand, but it was a mono synth. Or two voices at most, I forget.

* * I checked out the Fagan pic - I'm pretty sure it's A Yamaha or Casio, it's NOT a Roland.

I think the unit Fagen is playing was called The Probe . They haven't been widely marketed for quite a while . As far as the SH101, it does have 'guitar strap' hooks , so did the Korg Poly 800 and others used more often as 'regular' keyboards . The SH101 is single oscilator , no memory , no MIDI. Buy the AX 1.

I'm shooting a music video in LA and I want one of these to use as a prop. Does anyone in the Los Angeles area have one we could use? I also want to shoot a scene in room filled with synth equipment. If you've got a bunch of modular gear, please email me.
Thanks,
Chris
